    Counter-Creationism Handbook
    Friday, January 05, 2007

For anyone who wants a scientific response to the silly creationists arguments, this book can be helpfull. I found it on the Panda's Thumb Blog.

    Book Description
The Counter-Creationism Handbook is a one-stop resource for addressing over 400 of the most prevalent claims made by creationists. Each claim is followed by a succinct and scientifically valid rebuttal, and the book includes print and on-line resources for further reading and information.

Wow, science really does explain why we're on this damn earth, worrying about people, emotions, and good deeds. I say everytime you're depressed, pick up that knife and stab your life away. Better yet, if you want to kill someone, go ahead, what are you scared of? I guess we should all be this limited and accept Science as the explanation for our useless existence. What are we but fucked up pieces of cells? The "soul" has no role in the shit we're doing to ourselves, and the lives of others in the dirt. At least, that's what I feel watching you guys take advantage of life. Be proud of your brain cells and physics. Because you just convinced lil' old me that we are nothing but pieces of biology, and this life is nothing to be taken seriously at all. Let's all gather round a science lab and kill ourselves. Better yet, kill each other. :)

We are so lucky that Osama bin Laden, the Crusaders, and the judges in the medieval witch trials were religious! If they had been atheists, they might have killed people!

This also explains why all biologists, archaeologists, and other scientists eventually become serial killers. I'd been wondering about that for years.

Deena, you’ve sort of got all of that the wrong way round.

Atheists tend not to believe in after lives, although I’ll grant there are a few that manage to miss the god nonsense without catching onto the beauty and honesty of a naturalistic world view. But over all, most atheists think that this one life is it! This is the big one.

We don’t need souls because we neither see any evidence or reason for the existence of the self (whatever that is), after death. The result is that we tend to treat life as though it’s valuable. And I don’t mean just our own lives here. Atheists are far less likely to be involved in crime than theists, especially violent crimes including rape. We treat lives, both ours and others, as important now. We don’t wait for some sky faerie to make an eternal judgement over some poor fop that was just fitting in with the plan.

It’s not an option for us to assume that it’s all part of some greater plan that absolves us of taking it seriously. We recognise that it is what we do, right here and right now, that counts.

So if you think that not believing in god equates to “Better yet, kill each other :)” then before you insult us with this leap of nonsense you could do us the courtesy of explaining you thinking?

Another classic example of fundamentalist short-sightedness and simple-mindnedness (it seems like some peoples' knowledge on a topic is in inverse proportion to how much they think they know about it). It's not only frightening, it's pathetic to behold.

I'm sorry you need an imaginary friend in the sky to make your life worthwhile. That's a nice way to live. It's a problem, not a virtue as you might think. People like you tend to be so brainwashed you can't think your way through an argument, so you resort to name-calling and baseless accusations. When someone's upset with science and the truth (and frustrated with not being able to deal with it), what better way to let off steam than to act like a spoilt brat and to spout off prejudiced ignorance? It seems that the fundies have nothing but intimidation, lies and emotional blackmail.

I'm sorry to say it Deena, but you've been fed a mountain load of lies and stupidity, all designed to make people feel good about being ignorant and not having to wake up. It shocks and disgusts me that actual adults can believe such childish nonsense. I've seen kids reason better than you.

I'll also add, if it weren't for the indoctrination of innocent, credulous young children - for the systematic exploitation of that innocence in order to imprint into their vulnerable minds notions and evidence-free concepts they have no way of critically assessing - religion wouldn't be nearly so prevalent as it has been. This speaks volumes about religion and its truth claims: it relies on seeking out kids to brainwash at a time in their lives when they can barely fight back.

Some day, in the future (hopefully in the not-too-distant future), humanity will look back on this spectacle and consign it to the dustbin of barbarism and ignorance.

That book sounds good. I think I may have to pick that one up next time I do an Amazon order. Thanks for the tip.

Wow, it hurts to be proven wrong ALL THE TIME doesn't it deena? It seems to be making you angry.

Maybe you should be happy that us and our "fucked up pieces of cells" are able to experience consciousness even for a little while.

Do you realize what we're made of? Everything that was in the bang bang is in you and me. We ARE the universe, experiencing itself from multiple perspectives. That ought to make anyone think, not mad.
